The Fondation du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie has taken up the cause of rare genetic diseases that, because of their infrequent occurrence, receive little attention from researchers. By supporting research projects, the foundation gives hope to patients and families living with this reality.

Several clinician-researchers associated with pediatrics at the MUHC are conducting research projects on rare diseases, and the Fondation du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie has awarded them research grants over the years. These financial contributions are critical to help gain scientific knowledge on these often debilitating and devastating diseases and can be leveraged by researchers to help get government grants.
