Children and their families shared heart-warming stories of care and compassion as well as loss and recovery during the 20th edition of the Caring for Kids Radiothon broadcast live yesterday on CJAD 800, 95.9 Virgin Radio, CHOM 97 7 and TSN Radio 690.

Just before the clock struck 7:00 p.m., radiothon spokes-child Ibrahim revealed Quebecers had donated an amazing $1,306,400 to The Children’s to help sick children regain their boundless energy and return to their mischievous and occasionally even bratty selves. Because a bratty kid is a healthy kid. Long live little brats!

Since the debut of the Caring for Kids Radiothon in 2004, the community has donated over $29 million to help Quebec’s sickest children cope with chronic or acute medical conditions. To put the impact of your gifts into perspective, at The Children’s in the last 20 years:

• 62,600 newborns were cared for.
• 131,920 lifesaving or life-altering surgeries were performed.
• 1,370,480 children were treated in the Emergency Department.
• 3,927,820,600 patient appointments with medical specialists took place.

“Childhood is a joyful time to explore, jump in puddles, and play dress-up. Unfortunately, for sick children, these childhood delights are replaced with a life of pain, fatigue, needles, medication, and hospital stays,” says Renée Vézina, President of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. “I am so grateful to Bell Media and its radio stations, and to our donors and sponsors who year after year ensure Quebec children receive the very best life-saving care when they need it most. All Radiothon donations go to the Healthy Kids Fund to support the Hospital's most urgent needs, including purchasing medical and surgical equipment and funding innovative projects and services.
