Splash… for the Future

15e Lorena and Norman Cook couldn’t imagine the success Splash and Dash would become when their daughter Sarah was diagnosed with cancer. Last Saturday was 15th anniversary of this event, created by the Cooks, to benefit cancer patients and Sarah’s Floor at the Children’s. The event’s organizing committee, with chair Frances Szeto, presented a check of $275 265, shattering all records for the event. As a special treat, Montrealer and international singing star, Nikki Yanofsky was there to celebrate the day with the attendees.

Wonderful Teams

We thank all our participating teams for all their hard work in helping to raise a record amount for the kids on Sarah’s Floor. We would in particular like to acknowledge three teams from the Heroes and Celebrities race, who really went above and beyond.

13-year-old singing sensation Cory raised an incredible $31,600. The Ninjas, in honour of patient and young hero Vincenzo Cervini, raised $17,521. Brain cancer survivor and patient Gabriella Bucci, and her Gaby Bucci's SuperTeam, raised $11,555. Bravo to these kids helping kids. They are a constant source of inspiration to aim high!

Our partners

This event wouldn’t be what it is without our loyal partners. We would first like to thank Gold sponsor Christina Miller Real Estate Group. Serving as our Honourary Chair, Christina was instrumental in making this year a resounding success. Also, a big thank you to our other gold sponsors: Kamik, Gildan, Johnson & Johnson, 3Macs, Nova Steel, Pfizer and the Rossy Family Foundation; and to our race sponsors: Argus, Broccolini, CN, Fednav, Hindle & McQuoat Families, McKesson Canada and Sigvaris. We owe a debt of gratitude to Bell Media and to hosts Annie Demelt, Paul Karwatsky and Aaron Rand for helping to raise so much awareness about the event and for their participation in the Heroes and Celebrities race. And we cannot let this year go by without expressing our deep gratitude to Frances Szeto, longtime chair of our organizing committee. This was her final year in that role and what a great way to say goodbye! And last, but certainly not least, a heartfelt thank you to all our Splash & Dash volunteers, who for months gave up time with their own families worked so that on Saturday, November 5, we could put the fun into fundraising. On behalf of the patients and families on Sarah’s Floor, please know that your commitment and support is deeply, deeply appreciated.
