Wednesday, December 31, 2015
Opération Enfant Soleil is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 to raise funds for the development of high-quality pediatrics and to contribute to social health projects for children all over Quebec. The organization’s commitment to The Children’s over the years has been unwavering. Life saving equipment throughout the Hospital has been acquired thanks to the support of Opération Enfant Soleil.
The organization’s overall commitment to The Best Care for Children Campaign totals $25 million, funding three major projects that will transform the way care is provided in the new The Children’s.
The “Operation Enfant Soleil” Emergency Department of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital
The Emergency Department at the new Children’s on the Glen site will be focused on patient and family-centered care. Each patient will have their own room and will stay in the same place throughout their visit, limiting the movement and increasing efficiency. Its innovative design will allow for it to be expanded or contracted, depending on the number of patients. It will also allow personnel to observe the whole Emergency Department while maintaining patient privacy at the same time. The new Emergency Department will open its doors in 2015. In order to make this revolutionary project possible, Opération Enfant Soleil made a commitment of $10 million.
The first Intra-operative MRI in a Canadian Pediatric Hospital in Canada
The Intra-operative MRI allows precise medical images to be taken and reviewed during surgery. This advancement lets expert surgeons see the result of their work immediately, allowing them to assess whether to continue the procedure or to close up the patient. The result for patients is a more precise and effective surgery with a decreased risk of a future surgeries. For a child undergoing an open brain surgery this piece of equipment means a world of difference. Opération Enfant Soleil was the leading partner in acquiring this piece equipment, now in use at the current Children’s and which will be moved to the new Children’s in 2014.
