As an All-Star defenceman, P.K. Subban stood out for his charisma and electrifying style of play. In 2015, he became The Children’s star ambassador when he announced his and his foundation’s pledge of $10 million, the largest philanthropic commitment ever made by a Canadian athlete. In 2026, he fulfilled his promise.

P.K.’s journey with The Children’s and The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation is even more inspiring when you consider the obstacles he faced:  being traded to Nashville and then New Jersey, a worldwide pandemic and his retirement from professional hockey. But nothing hindered his determination.

He and his foundation supported initiatives that transformed the lives of patients and families: free premium TV service and Wi-Fi in patient rooms, Books for Babies in the NICU, mental health projects, specialized equipment, and support for families of children with complex needs. P.K.’s Helping Hand also assisted families facing serious financial issues because of their child’s illness. Since 2015, more than 100,000 families have benefited.

But beyond that, P.K. has been most generous with his time. Despite the demanding schedule of a professional athlete, and now as an analyst on ESPN, P.K., his family, and his foundation have always made time for The Children’s.

From major fundraising galas and community rallies to jersey signings and unforgettable patient visits, P.K. has used his platform to bring people together for our young patients. He never misses an opportunity to bring laughter and light to our community.

The faces of the kids, families and staff light up when he walks into a room. His contagious energy, empathy, and genuine care make each moment unforgettable.

While this milestone marks the fulfillment of his remarkable $10 million commitment, P.K.’s partnership with The Children’s Foundation will continue. We’re infinitely grateful to know that we’ll be able to continue to count on him.
