News from Rosy

Rest in peace Rosy

Her parents came to Canada in the hope of a better life for the family they wanted to start. Rosy, their first child, their ray of sunshine, got sick at the age of 1: brain tumor. Four years ago, Rosy was the face of our Tiny Tim Fund campaign, that support our families during the hard times. Her story helped hundreds of sick kids’ families.

Rosy beat cancer. But a second tumor appeared. Then a third. She fought for 9 years, supported by the staff of the Children's, loving parents and brother, who will have given everything in the hope that their princess will get better. Today, help us honor the memory of this endearing girl. By a gift, by a word.

Rosy's Story

December 2014

RosyJust before Christmas, we shared with you the story of Rosy, one of our patients who fought brain cancer twice. Unfortunately, just a few weeks into the new year, Rosy and her family learned that her cancer had come back. As you read these lines, she is recovering from a 10-hour operation. The new tumor appeared this January and when chemotherapy treatments failed to slow the tumour’s growth, there was no other choice but to operate again. She also received a more aggressive experimental chemotherapy to destroy any remnants of her third tumour. Rosy has a tough fight ahead of her.

Rosy was barely a year old when she began to have unexplained fevers and sudden weight loss. The diagnosis was devastating: a malignant brain tumour. A delicate operation to remove the mass was successful, but this past spring, Rosy got more bad news: another tumour had appeared and she needed more surgery. The toll has been great: the tumours and operations have left Rosy with serious delays in acquiring mobility and language skills.

They have also badly impoverished her family. Rosy’s mom had to quit her job for the long vigil at her daughter’s bedside and to care for her at home. The family’s savings ran out and they are now living on her father’s income.
