The clock was ticking for Jazper
"There are no words to truly express how lucky we feel and how grateful we are to the staff at the Montreal Children’s Hospital," says Jazper’s mom Nadia, still shaken after her new-born’s bumpy beginnings in life.
Two weeks after his birth, Jazper and his family went to the see the doctor for a routine appointment. "His pediatrician, Dr. Richard Haber, heard a murmur and immediately checked his femoral pulse: he had none. We were referred to cardiologist Dr. Charles Rohlicek who would see us immediately," she recalls. That’s when the news hit: Jazper needed to undergo surgery. At just 19 days old, his heart was barely the size of a strawberry.
Four days later, Jazper had emergency heart surgery to repair a severe coarctation of his aorta, a dangerous narrowing of his artery that was starving his body of oxygen-rich blood. Today, the little boy is doing great.
