A little miracle named Taly

Taly is a “wonderful surprise” baby.  Kim, who had been diagnosed infertile, and her husband got quite a surprise when they learned they would have a third miracle baby! "My pregnancy was going well and we were very excited to have another little girl. During a routine visit to the hospital at my 38th week of pregnancy, the monitor didn’t show any movement from Taly in my belly. However, the gynecologist was not alarmed as the ultrasound didn’t show anything abnormal. The next day, still not feeling any movement from my baby, I returned to my hospital. They spent four hours monitoring the baby’s heartbeat and movement. That’s when the gynecologist on site became very concerned and decided I had to undergo an emergency caesarean section. Taly When Taly was born, she had a lot of trouble taking in oxygen by herself. For the first two days of her life, doctors focused all their energy on her breathing only to realize, on the third day, that she had arrhythmia. During the night, they sent the results of Taly’s electrocardiogram to the Montreal Children's Hospital. That’s when the pediatrician who analyzed the ECG requested an emergency transfer to hospital. So we left in the middle of the night by ambulance to the Children’s. The first days, doctors performed a battery of tests to find the exact cause. Towards her fifth day of life, Taly’s pulse began to become more regular; on her 7th day, her pulse was normal. Children’s cardiologist, Dr. Béland, worked hard to find the exact cause of Taly’s cardiac problems. Finally, after a week, we learned that Taly suffered from hypertrophy of the heart, which was enlarged due to a blood clot caught in the ductus arteriosus. Luckily, this canal closes at birth, and the problem resolved by itself without surgery. After two weeks of observation, to be sure Taly’s heart was completely healed, we could finally leave the hospital. Today, Taly is a healthy five-month-old little girl. All this is now part of her past and Taly will simply have to see her cardiologist from time to time to make sure everything continues to go well . The Children’s, and in particular the Neonatology Unit and its experts, were an amazing support for us. We were very anxious, but we honestly had the feeling of being supported. And for that, we will be forever grateful". - Kim Lamoureux Taly’s mom If your child is a current or former patient and you feel that you have a compelling story to share,  why not join us on our Radiothon on June 2nd ?
