Cystic fibrosis, or CF, is the most common genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. It is estimated that 1 in every 3,600 children born in Canada has cystic fibrosis. Almost 4,000 Canadian children, adolescents, and adults with cystic fibrosis require specialized CF clinics, like the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Clinic of the Montreal Children’s Hospital. There is no cure.

At just 8 months old, Vita and Mara Racaniello, nieces to Sandy Cavallo, were diagnosed with this genetic disease. Hospitalized almost every year since their initial diagnosis, the twins undergo treatments three times a day and require medication at every meal. The Cystic Fibrosis clinic at the Montreal Children’s continues to help manage their daily lives. Despite the ongoing battle, Vita and Mara are two happy girls, always smiling.

Radix MTL uses art, culture, community, and creativity as the instruments to help children in need. Through shared experienced and a love of art, Radix MTL has been able to raise over $20,000 since its inception in 2016.
