Mission accomplished for Bruce's little soldiers and the army of generous donors who support The Children's

On October 2, Bruce and his family walked through the doors of the Charles Bruneau Cancer Centre at The Children's feeling a little lighter.

Just over two years ago, Bruce was diagnosed with leukemia at just three years old. Weekly treatments, hospital stays, and long days recovering at home quickly became part of family life. During immunotherapy, Bruce carried a small bag of medication wherever he went. To his care team and parents, it was part of his treatment. To Bruce, it was something else entirely: little soldiers fighting the bad guys in his body.

Those little soldiers worked hard, and so did Bruce.

Now, he’s reached a major milestone by completing his cancer treatment.

"It's almost a complete sense of freedom now that this is behind us," says his mother, Audrey. "And seeing Bruce come through all of this, I'm so proud of my boy."

For Bruce, the achievement is much simpler.

"We had to fight the bad guys," he says. "There aren't any left, Dad!"

Today, Bruce is thriving. Now six years old, he's started school, made new friends, and is embracing everything that comes with being a kid.

For Audrey, Bruce's journey is also a reminder of the impact donors have on families facing childhood cancer.

"If it weren't for people who give, the recovery rates wouldn't be the same," she says. "Research advances because of donors and foundations. That's why my son is healthy today."

Thanks to supporters like you, more children like Bruce can access the life-changing care and research that make moments like this possible.
