Milestone edition brought together business leaders in support of surgical excellence and innovative treatments for childhood blindness

The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation celebrated the 30th anniversary of its annual Golf Tournament, raising an outstanding $1 million to support exceptional care, research and medical expertise at The Montreal Children’s Hospital (The Children’s).

Held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club, the milestone edition brought together members of Montreal’s business and philanthropic communities in support of some of Quebec’s most medically vulnerable children and teens.

This year’s event was led by honorary co-presidents Michael Broccolini, Chief Investment Officer and President of Real Estate at Broccolini, and Michael Denham, Executive Vice-President and Vice-Chair at National Bank.

“The business community has an important role to play in ensuring our hospitals can continue to innovate and provide exceptional care,” said Michael Broccolini. “I am proud to be part of a tradition that brings people together to help give children, their families and mothers-to-be access to the very best care.”

“Investing in medical expertise and research can make a real difference for children and families for years to come,” said Michael Denham. “The funds raised will help advance care today, and support new discoveries and treatments for the future. Olympic freestyle skiing champion and Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation ambassador Mikaël Kingsbury also joined golfers for the special anniversary tournament. 

Supporting surgical excellence and new treatments for childhood blindness

Funds raised through this year’s tournament will support two essential areas at The Children’s: surgical fellowships and the treatment and research of inherited blindness in children.

The surgical fellowship program helps train exceptional young surgeons from around the world under the guidance of The Children’s renowned teams, while strengthening the Hospital’s ability to recruit top medical talent. Funds will also advance research and innovative treatments for inherited retinal diseases, including gene therapy, bringing new hope to children who have lost or are at risk of losing their sight.

“Thirty years of this tournament represents 30 years of people coming together because they believe sick children deserve the very best,” said Renée Vézina, President of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Since the first tournament in 1997, more than $17 million has been raised to support The Children’s and its patients. This year’s incredible total of $1 million continues that legacy of generosity. Thank you to everyone who helped make this milestone edition such a success.”
