The 30th annual Pedal for Kids raises over $300,000 for our young patients

On the week of September 20, 2021, over 400 participants pedalled their hearts out as they propelled the 30-seat Mighty Bike around Montreal’s downtown core during the 30th annual edition of Pedal for Kids. The donation tally was an impressive $300,712!

A huge thank you to our hero Evan, our generous cyclists, volunteers and donors. A special shout out to Pedal for Kids’ Committee Co-Chairs Rudy Azoulay and Eddy Farrace, the members of the organizing committee, and event sponsors Groupe AGW Inc. and Remorquage Burstall Conrad.

Pedal for Kids is one of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation’s most important fundraising activities and also one of the most exciting! Imagine a 30-seat Mighty Bike powered by proud participants making its way through the city’s downtown streets to rousing music!

Despite the many challenges posed by COVID-19, organizing committee members, participants and donors continue to work together to ensure the success of the Foundation’s flagship event.

A little story

In 1992, Michael Conway started Pedal for Kids in memory of his daughter Meagan who had been treated at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Thirty years later, his initiative is going strong, helping the Children's in its mission to provide cutting-edge care for sick children and their families.

Yes! In fact, it is our preferred method since the processing time is much faster than for cash or cheque donations.

What do I do if someone wants to donate by cheque?

Encourage them to make their pledge on your personal fundraising page, where they can write a personal message of encouragement on your wall. The online donation payment page includes the option of donating by cheque. The cheque can be mailed directly to the foundation along with the name, address, and team name; alternatively, the cheque can be given to your team captain.

What do I do if someone wants to donate cash?

The best way to handle cash is to put it in a sealed donation envelope (provided to all participants) along with the name and address of the donor, and give it to your team captain. You can also drop it off directly at the Foundation to the attention of Alexy Symons-Bélanger. Make sure that you indicate the name of your team on the envelope so we know to whom to attribute the donations!

How can I get involved in Pedal for Kids without fundraising?

Become a volunteer! Over 30 individuals help out every day on the Pedal for Kids site. Contact Alexy at or 514-934-4846 ext : 29270 for more information and to sign up as a volunteer.

Where your donations goes?

The funds collected will be directed to the Healthy Kids Fund, where they are used for the hospital's most urgent needs. Most notably, the funds are used for purchasing medical and surgical equipment, as well as financing innovative projects.

By supporting the Healthy Kids Fund, you are giving the Children's the necessary resources and tools when they are most needed. Your donation could be directed to:

  • The acquisition of life-saving medical equipment.
  • Financing important research on pediatric diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
  • Training the next generation of doctors and medical specialists.
  • Helping families with financial difficulty get the medical attention that their sick child needs.
  • Other hospital priorities.

Your contribution is essential to maintaining the status of world-class pediatric care that the Montreal Children's Hospital has become known for. When you support our most urgent needs, you offer the best possible care to countless sick children and their families.

This year marks the 30th edition of Pedal for Kids. Our goal is to raise $300,000 to help build the Pavillon Caramel and support the Healthy Kids Fund.

Oftentimes families from outside Montreal face long stays at the Hospital for their seriously ill child that can cause emotional and financial stress. To respond to this need, in 2023, the Children’s Foundation will open Pavillon Caramel, a six-room residence offering free accommodations to parents of hospitalized children, who are facing financial difficulties.

When a newborn, child or adolescent needs an unexpected treatment that could be the difference between life and death, the Healthy Kids Fund is there to respond to urgent needs at the right time. Your donation will contribute directly to transforming care for thousands of young patients and their families.

Evan, a superhero on wheels

At 6 years old, Evan has already triumphed in three open-heart surgeries. Now, thanks to the care he’s received at the Children’s since birth, his condition has stabilized. His parents are watching him grow up in the hope he’ll continue to live a healthy life.

When Evan was born at 39 weeks, he had a hole in the wall separating his heart’s ventricles, and only his right ventricle functioned. At 17 days, he underwent his first open-heart surgery - a big operation for such a tiny baby! “The most difficult conversation of our lives was envisioning the possibility that our son might not survive the risky surgery,” says Kimberly, Evan’s mom. “We felt powerless and terrified.”

Fortunately, thanks to the expertise and care shown by Dr. Christo Tchervenkov, head of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Division, and Dr. Tíscar Cavallé, pediatric cardiologist, everything went well. “With every surgery, we knew Evan was in the best possible hands.”

Each year, the Children’s treats more than 4,000 children with heart disease.

Thanks to your generosity, these children have access to new therapies and technologies, allowing over 90% of them to survive and have a chance to life a full life. Your support allows the Children’s to offer quality care and attract talented specialists like Dr. Tchervenkov and Dr. Cavallé, who helped Evan beat the odds.

Pedal for our kids! Participate in this year’s event so that sick children like Evan can get the most out of their childhood.
