Generations of children and their families received help and comfort, and their lives were transformed by the cutting-edge care you made possible. Thanks to you, the best doctors, nurses, researchers, and countless other healthcare professionals have benefited from the resources necessary to push the limits of what’s possible in pediatric care. No world-class pediatric hospital can thrive without its valued donors. Donations support innovation in care, research and education, and this innovation ensures our young patients receive the best that medicine can offer.
This past year was marked by innovation, such as the Smart Hospital Project, and our flagship events, like the Ball and Golf Tournament among others, brought in millions of dollars.
We’re beginning the second half of our Unexpected Ways to Heal campaign with our ambitious plan to raise $200 million in seven years. As part of it, our award-winning “Long Live Little Brats” campaign has captured the province’s imagination. “Long Live Little Brats” is so much more than a unique slogan – it is our promise to future generations of sick children.

Barely past the pandemic’s most critical period, The Children’s found itself confronted with the perfect storm of respiratory viruses that once again put Hospital personnel under strain. Our teams weathered the storm, mobilizing and showing flexibility and creativity to offer young patients exceptional family-centred care. Their efforts would not have had the same impact without the tremendous generosity of the Foundation and its donors. Their support has enabled us to get through the crisis in the emergency department and to sustain overall excellence in patient care, research, and education.

The Children’s Foundation is in the middle of a major $200-million campaign, our most important fundraising effort ever. The goal is to support innovation in clinical care, research and teaching in pediatric and maternal-fetal care at The Montreal Children’s Hospital. Funds raised are advancing groundbreaking projects in pediatric and maternal-fetal care that are pushing the envelope on an international scale. The Foundation also supports the Child Health and Human Development Program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre one of Canada’s top three research centres.
Some of the sickest kids in the province depend on the cutting-edge care they receive at The Children’s, a world leader recognized for the exceptional quality of its medical and research teams, who hail from around the world. This campaign is allowing us to find Unexpected Ways to Heal and help young patients be their energetic selves once again. Because, at The Children’s, we prefer our kids to be spirited, even a little bratty – anything but sick.
As Quebec’s first pediatric hospital, The Children’s is a world-renowned for the broad spectrum of highly specialized care provided to newborns, children and adolescents.
Providing a human touch is part of The Children’s DNA. Representing a modern Quebec, the Hospital is setting and advancing standards for patient and family-centered care.
The Children’s provides access to specialized pediatric care to children living in an area spanning 63 percent of the territory of the province of Quebec. Affiliated with McGill University since 1904, the Hospital provides cutting-edge care to families across Quebec including the far north, in French, in English and in 45 other languages.
Each year, the Montreal Children’s Hospital’s international standing and the McGill University Faculty of Medicine’s reputation attract top doctors and researchers with unique and innovative projects. As a cutting-edge pediatric hospital, The Children’s also offers them the opportunity to further their training to improve care and complex procedures with state-of-the-art technology. And thanks to our precious partners, sponsors and donors, The Children’s fosters healing in every way possible for our young patients and their families.
With the rapid development of the technologies and techniques used to care for our young patients, simulation-based training is more important than ever. As well as providing a risk-free environment for patients, on-site simulation allows healthcare professionals to practice and improve complex medical care and procedures for our young patients.
The Center’s unique in situ approach allows participants to problem solve within their own dynamic settings and supports the implementation of learning into practice. In the near future, all our teams in training will be able to continue offering exceptional care to all our patients.
The Children’s researchers are testing wireless vital-sign sensors on tiny newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit: a Canadian first!
Led by Dr. Guilherme Sant’Anna, neonatologist, and principal researcher, The Children’s Smart Hospital Project seeks to compare data captured by wireless, portable vital-sign sensors with data captured by traditional wired electrodes.
Two sensors — a small patch on the baby’s chest and a bracelet around the baby’s wrist or ankle — send real-time vital signs to a computer. These sensors allow parents to hold their baby in their arms and have skin-to-skin contact more easily.
With his golden fur and soft brown eyes, Kitchi, a 2-year-old goldendoodle, is turning heads as he prances down the Hospital’s halls. He’s the newest member from Zoothérapie Québec to join the Child Life team at The Children’s.
Last January, he joined Maya, a miniature Bichon Maltese. In exchange for a few treats and ear scratches, the two dogs visit patients once a week in Hematology-Oncology, Hemodialysis, Psychiatry, and other Hospital services.
Even more children will get to enjoy these soothing, fun visits, which aim to reduce stress during their Hospital stay.
For 40% of The Children's patients, the Hospital is almost a second home. While stays last eight days on average, they can sometimes stretch into several months. Studies have shown that art can be a soothing distraction for patients and their families when they are going through a particularly stressful time.
It was from this idea that the project to make The Children's a transformative and innovative environment was born. Thanks to partnerships with Montreal multimedia agencies and Quebec artists, therapeutic works of art will decorate the Hospital and promote healing by reducing anxiety, stress, and the perception of pain in children and adolescents.

With your help, we are supporting projects that directly impact more than 9,000 young patients and their families each year.
Since event fundraising came to a halt during the pandemic, we agreed to extend my commitment to 2025. However, I have always seen my partnership with The Children’s continuing long-term.

I returned to Montreal several times this year to visit my friends at The Children’s. Meeting patients and their families keeps me motivated and fills me with joy. Presented by National Bank, the ceremony on May 30, 2022, celebrated the honourees’ exceptional work in helping The Children’s young patients get back on their feet.

Nearly 500 distinguished guests attended the Bal des tannants to support the Hospital’s most urgent needs. With mischief in the air, the 2022 edition of the prestigious gala gave our generous partygoers the chance to show their mischievous side and raise $1,100,625.
It was an emotional evening, with a wonderful performance by André-Philippe Gagnon, The Children’s Foundation ambassador, and Stephen’s heart-wrenching account of his daughter Séanne’s battle with a rare form of liver cancer.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our honourary co-presidents, Mr. Roberto Di Giorgio, president of ALRE Properties Inc., and Dr. Marie Di Maso, president of the DGDM Family Foundation, as well as Mr. Louis Vachon, former president and CEO at the National Bank, operating partner J.C. Breakfast with Leaders, organised by the Young Leaders Circle, in collaboration with The Children’s Foundation, raised an impressive $40,000 plus!
This unique networking event gathered more than 200 people at the prestigious Mount Stephen. This event allows the next generation to network with leaders and advocates for change, who are shaping Quebec. Twenty-three leaders from the business, social, and community sectors met with students and young professionals who want to make a difference in their community.
The Young Leaders Circle, made up of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 35, has raised funds to meet The Children’s most urgent needs and help young patients get back to their mischievous selves.
Pedal for Kids raised $392,000 for The Children’s in its 31st edition. The energy was high, and everyone was there for one reason: to raise as much money as possible for the Healthy Kids Fund and give young patients back their fighting spirit. Twenty teams pedaled with heart and enthusiasm to help sick children.
Since its debut in 1991, Pedal for Kids has raised more than $14 million to help young patients like Ariana beat the odds.
On behalf of Ariana and countless other sick children and their families, thank you to the organizing committee, participants, volunteers, and donors who made this success possible.

The Children’s annual Golf Tournament once again surpassed the million mark, raising the sum of $1,000,695. Businesspeople, doctors, philanthropists - everyone came together to help The Children’s young patients regain their boundless energy.
The proceeds raised are used to recruit the best physicians worldwide, and the “Corridor of Care,” a program designed to improve coordination of care, patient education, and access to community resources for families of children with complex medical issues.

Halfway through our major campaign, we are truly allowing The Children’s to find Unexpected Ways to Heal. Your continued commitment and support helped us raise $32.775 million in donations, making fiscal 2022-2023 the second-best year in the Foundation's history.
Thanks to our donors, the Foundation exceeded its fundraising target of $30.314 million by more than 8%. Your generosity was a pillar of support for The Children's and its outstanding healthcare professionals, who were on the front line of the healthcare system during a very challenging year for all Canadian pediatric hospitals.
The main growth areas during the last fiscal year were annual corporate partnerships and special events, including the Bal des Tannants. I would like to thank our loyal community of corporate and individual donors, partner foundations and all those who organized and participated in over 150 fundraisers. These sources of unrestricted funds are vital, as they give the Hospital the flexibility to respond to the most urgent needs of its young patients.
Realized net income was $6.3 million, down from $7 million last year, due to continued high volatility in the market during unstable economic times. The Foundation's expenses increased as a result of growth linked to our major campaign.
Over the past year, the Foundation gave $23.2 million to The Children's, an increase of $3.3 million or 16.6% over the previous fiscal year.
Of this amount, the Hospital used $11.5 million (50%) to fund research projects and provide academic support; just over $1.02 million (4%) to purchase equipment; $6.5 million (28%) to fund urgent priorities; and $4.2 million (18%) to meet ongoing commitments to build the new Hospital.
We are extremely grateful for your generous support and your contribution to a very successful fundraising year. Thank you for helping The Children’s young patients regain their health and energy and once again resume being a little bratty. Long live little brats.

- retinoscopes for ambulatory services, a nitrous oxide gas system for trauma and dentistry, biliblankets for the NICU, a bilisoft phototherapy system for the birthing centre, and a complete set of equipment for a new pediatric transport unit, including a ventilator, defibrillator, portable ultrasound, perfusion pumps, blood analyzer, and pediatric laryngoscope blades and handles

- scholarships, fellowships and start-up research funding to develop the next generation of pediatric clinicians and researchers

- breastfeeding support for moms with babies on the neonatal intensive care unit
