Shave to Raise 2017
A community is defined by the commitment of the individuals that exist within it, and how they choose to make a difference. The town of Montreal West is a small community, but a passionate one. On July 20, 2017 the Montreal West Pool and Day Camp will pair up to throw their 11th annual Shave to Raise event.
For the past 11 years residents of Montreal West have come together, both young and old, at the Pool to do what they can to help others. The success of this event has stretched beyond the wildest dreams of its organizers. The organizers have decided to follow their hearts again this
summer, and dedicate the money raised at this event to the Music Therapy Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
The new Montreal Children’s Hospital, located at the Glen Site is home to a Music Therapy Program, whose aim it is to aid in the development of and foster the wellbeing of children, who are often hospitalized for long times. Long hospital stays can prove to be grueling for both parents and children alike, and can affect everyone involved, both physically and psychologically. Music therapy uses elements of music such as rhythm, melody and harmony to
promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Rita Pierson once said “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”. While we cannot all be physically present to be a champion to a child, it is initiatives like these that allow children the opportunity to thrive.
We hope to see you out on July 20, 2017 as of 6:00pm at the Montreal West Pool for an evening with music, lots of head shaving, great raffle prizes, and a BBQ.
