By raising record sums, you supported the most urgent needs of The Montreal Children's Hospital, maternal health, pediatric research at the Research Institute of the MUHC and the innovative projects of the Foundation’s Unexpected Ways to Heal campaign.

The Children’s has a strong international reputation for patient and family-centered care, and it’s thanks to the doctors and nursing staff who build and strengthen it day after day. They truly deserve our admiration and gratitude.

The Children’s Foundation is in the middle of a major $200-million campaign, our most important fundraising effort ever. The goal is to support innovation in clinical care, research, and teaching in pediatric and maternal-fetal care at The Montreal Children’s Hospital. Funds raised are advancing groundbreaking projects in pediatric and maternal-fetal care that are pushing the envelope on an international scale. The Foundation also supports the Child Health and Human Development Program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre one of Canada’s top three research centres.
Some of the sickest kids in the province depend on the cutting-edge care they receive at The Children’s, an international leader recognized for the exceptional quality of its medical and research teams, who hail from around the world. This campaign is allowing us to find Unexpected Ways to Heal and help young patients be their energetic selves once again. Because, at The Children’s, we prefer our kids to be spirited, even a little bratty – anything but sick.
As Quebec’s first pediatric hospital, The Children’s is world-renowned for the broad spectrum of highly specialized care provided to newborns, children, adolescents and maternal health.
Providing a human touch is part of The Children’s DNA. Representing a modern Quebec, the Hospital is setting and advancing standards for patient and family-centered care.
The Children’s provides access to specialized pediatric care to children living in an area spanning 63 percent of the territory of the province of Quebec. Affiliated with McGill University since 1904, the Hospital provides cutting-edge care to families across Quebec including the far north, in French, in English and in 45 other languages.
In Canada, pregnancy complications affect 14% of pregnant women. Among women aged 34 to 44, the rate climbs to 23%. At present, complications are only detected between the second and third trimesters, once they’ve already caused damage to the fetus, or after birth, and few treatments exist to prevent and minimize their often-devastating impact on a newborn’s health.
An important new study at The Children’s allows for the monitoring of pregnant women at risk of developing a complication. Launched in March 2023, this study is unique in Canada and seeks to improve non-invasive approaches to identify the mechanisms of pregnancy complications and develop treatments to prevent them.
We live in an increasingly toxic environment, which impacts every aspect of human development, from birth defects to inflammatory diseases and cancers. Many children are genetically predisposed to an illness, but only develop it after exposure to an environmental toxin.
With the creation of a database analyzing environmental toxins and their effect on health, this research project will help protect pregnant women, unborn children, and newborns from these dangers. This project constitutes the second phase of The Children’s Pediatric Centre for Applied Genetics.
MIPOGG (McGill Interactive Pediatric OncoGenetic Guidelines) is a revolutionary electronic health tool to detect cancer predisposition syndromes. MIPOGG uses medical and family history as well as tumor characteristics to assess the likelihood a child’s cancer is linked to a cancer predisposition syndrome.
Developed here at The Children’s and designed to help clinicians worldwide, the MIPOGG boasts over 2,300 users in 85 countries and allows for faster and more targeted treatments in pediatric oncology. The tool is now recommended by the world’s largest pediatric cancer organizations.
Inaugurated this spring and just a five-minute walk from The Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Pavillon Kat Demes offers families from outside Montreal temporary housing free of charge while their child receives specialized care at The Children’s. With six furnished rooms complete with private washrooms, the pavilion offers families a quiet place to sleep, eat, and recharge.
The pavilion was named in memory of Catherine “Kat” Demes, a brave little girl who lost her fight against brain cancer at 5 years old. This peaceful haven was made possible thanks to the compassion and generosity of the Montreal community, whose donations fully funded the project.
Thanks to everyone who donated generously during the Each Donation Counts Double campaign, where I had the pleasure of being joined by the young, talented Sienna. You were incredible, helping many families get through difficult times.
During one of my visits to The Children’s, I had fun making a holiday card with a few of my friends. I enjoy meeting children and their families. Parents always tell me how grateful they are to have people who care about their child’s future. This motivates me to continue fundraising for The Children’s.
I would like to pay tribute to the hardworking caregivers who make the Hospital such a special place. Their dedication to their patients is inspiring and I feel privileged that I have gotten to know so many of them over the years.

For the 24th year, the recognition ceremony, held in the hospital's P.K. Subban Atrium, celebrated the exceptional work of the award winners, who help The Children's to Find Unexpected Ways to Heal and get young patients back on their feet.

The Bal des tannants for The Children's raises a record $1.5 million
Over 700 people attended the sold-out Bal des tannants for The Children’s held on May 12, 2023. The most anticipated event of Montreal’s social season raised a record for the Hospital’s Healthy Kids Fund.
The Ball’s Honourary Co-presidents were the dream team of Isabelle Marcoux C.M, Chair of the Board, Transcontinental Inc., and Kim Thomassin, Executive Vice President and Head of Quebec, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.
This year’s edition sold out quickly, thanks to our Honourary Co-presidents and the Ball’s Partnerships Committee, helmed by the formidable duo of Sharon Stern, of Eastmore Management and Véronique Black, of American Iron & Metal (AIM).
A glamorous crowd of business and community leaders, philanthropists, government ministers, and other generous Quebecers attended the ‘fun’draiser held at the Starlink Aviation hangar. Partygoers revealed their mischievous nature for a good cause – The Children’s young patients. It was a fun celebration of brattiness because we all know a bratty kid is a healthy kid…long live little brats!
In November 2023, the Déjeun'aide team met at the trendy Yoko Luna restaurant and raised $33,000 to help meet The Children's most urgent needs.
Déjeun'aide supports The Children’s Foundation by giving students and young professionals the opportunity to network with business, social and community leaders over a friendly breakfast.
In addition to providing students and young professionals the opportunity to chat with a business leader, the annual event also allows leaders to mentor and engage with the next generation of young professionals and philanthropists.
The 2023 edition was presented by Bell Canada and featured André Beaulieu, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Services, BCE.
32nd annual edition of Pedal for Kids raises $430,000 for sick children
The 22 teams who took part in Pedal for Kids in June 2023 raised an outstanding $430,000 in support of The Children's young patients and their families. The energetic cyclists hopped on our 30-person Mighty Bike and pedaled their hearts out to help children like Emma, the spokesperson for the event.
The funds raised by Pedal for Kids will support the new Inter-Hospital Pediatric Transport team, which is expected to benefit more than 400 children annually.
On behalf of Emma and the many other sick children and their families, we would like to thank the members of the organising committee, the participants, the volunteers and the donors who made this success possible.
The 20th annual Caring for Kids Radiothon raised $1,306,400 for sick children and women with high-risk pregnancies
Children and their families shared heart-warming stories of care and compassion, as well as healing and loss, during the 20th edition of the Caring for Kids Radiothon broadcast live on August 24th, 2023, on CJAD 800, 95.9 Virgin Radio, CHOM 97.7 and TSN Radio 690.
Since 2004, the Radiothon has raised over $29 million, enabling sick children and their families to benefit from ultra-specialised medical care of exceptional quality. Twenty-one patients and families shared their heartbreaking stories of hope and courage.

The Children’s Foundation raises a generous $823,560 at its annual Golf Tournament
The tournament 'aced' it, thanks to its incredible organizing committee; two amazing Co-Presidents of Honour, Mitch Garber C.M., and Grégoire Baillargeon, President, BMO Financial Group, Quebec; generous golfers, business leaders, and invaluable sponsors.
Proceeds from the annual tournament fund surgical fellowships. Young surgeons from around the world come to The Children's to enhance their surgical knowledge and technical skills and advance innovative pediatric surgery. Fellowships also allow The Children’s to recruit the best and brightest young surgeons in Quebec.
The tournament also supports a patient navigation program or ‘Corridor of Care’ to improve care coordination, patient education, and access to community resources. The Children's Corridor of Care is being developed using evidence-based best practices and serves as a template for other pediatric centres in Canada and beyond.
More than ever, our major campaign continued to generate great interest, allowing The Children's to stand out and find Unexpected Ways to Heal. Your continued commitment and support helped us raise $36.6 million in donations, making fiscal 2023-2024 the best year in the Foundation's history.
Thanks to you, the Foundation exceeded its fundraising target of $33.83 million by nearly 12%. Your generosity has provided tremendous support for The Children's and its outstanding healthcare professionals, who were on the front line of the healthcare system during another very challenging year for Canadian pediatric hospitals.
The main areas of growth during the last fiscal year were major gifts and special events, including the Bal des Tannants. I would also like to thank our loyal community of corporate and individual donors, partner foundations and all those who organized and participated in countless fundraising events. These sources of funds are vital, as they give the Hospital the flexibility to launch innovative projects and respond to the most urgent needs of its young patients.
Realized net income was $5.6 million, down from $6.3 million last year, due to continued high volatility in the market during unstable economic times. The Foundation's expenses increased because of growth linked to our major campaign.
Over the past year, the Foundation gave $23.5 million to The Children's, an increase of $0.36 million or 2% over the previous year.
Of this amount, the Hospital used $10.8 million (46%) to fund research projects and provide academic support; just over $0.5 million (2%) to purchase equipment; $7.9 million (34%) to fund urgent priorities; and $4.3 million (18%) to meet the last instalment towards the construction of the new Hospital.
We are extremely grateful for your generous support and your contribution to an exceptional fundraising year. Thank you for helping The Children’s young patients regain their health and energy and once again resume being a little bratty, because a bratty kid is a healthy kid. Long live little brats.
